The Christmas Tree
Do you ever wonder why we have the Christmas Tree? It is said that there was an English missionary, Winfrid, back in the seventh century who used the evergreen tree as an object lesson. As he looked at this tree he saw that it had a triangular shape and used it to teach that each point represented a different Person in the Trinity - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These were three distinct points representing 3 distinct Persons, yet they are all part of one tree (one God).
In addition, we can note that the boughs of the tree stretch outward just as Jesus stretches His arms out wide to all that will come to Him and it also points upward, reminding us to keep our eyes on Jesus.
The Christmas Tree can also remind us of the reason Jesus came in the first place - to die for our sins - remember He died being nailed to a cross made of wood from a tree.
1st Peter 2:24 tells us: "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness." NIV.
These are all things that we can remember as we look at our Christmas Trees as they stand tall in our homes. Let's reach out to others and share with them about the incredible love of Jesus!..
